How to Load a Tape Gun (Step-by-Step)

admin |

You've got the tape, the gun, the cartons and the courier bags ready to go — then you hit the first hurdle: how do you actually get the roll of tape into the tape gun? Here's how to load a tape gun in a few seconds, for both common models.

The two tape gun models

  • Pistol-grip model (red handle) — the standard packing dispenser.
  • Noise-reduction model (blue handle) — has a latch the tape wraps around and runs much quieter than a standard gun.

How to load a pistol-grip tape gun

  1. Push the roll of tape onto the spindle.
  2. Make sure the loose end of the tape faces the back of the unit.
  3. Pull the loose end through the roller assembly, sticky side facing out.
  4. Pull off any scrunched-up excess tape.

How to load a noise-reduction tape gun

  1. Pull down the latch.
  2. Secure the tape with the loose end facing the back of the dispenser.
  3. Pull the tape through the roller.
  4. Pull off any scrunched-up excess tape.

FAQ

Which way does the tape go in a tape gun?
Sticky side out, with the loose end feeding from the back of the unit through the roller.

Why does my tape gun keep jamming or twisting?
Usually the roll is on backwards or the tape isn't threaded through the roller correctly — re-feed it sticky-side-out and pull off the scrunched lead.

What's the difference between the red and blue tape guns?
The red pistol-grip is the standard dispenser; the blue noise-reduction model has a latch and runs much quieter.
