Courier Bag or Padded Mailer?

Choose a courier bag when the item can't break. Courier bags are the lightest option, which keeps postage costs down, and the tamper-evident seal shows if a parcel has been opened in transit. They are the standard for:

• Clothing, activewear and swimwear
• Documents and printed materials
• Items already in a retail box or moulded plastic packaging
• Items you have wrapped in bubble wrap or tissue paper first

Choose a padded mailer when the item could be scratched, bent or cracked. Jiffy and honeycomb mailers use paper padding and suit books, stationery and gifts. Paper mail pack and plastic maxi pack mailers have a bubble wrap lining for more delicate items like cosmetics, jewellery, electronics accessories and glass. If the parcel may be left out in the rain, the plastic maxi pack is the better choice because its outer layer is moisture-resistant.

For items that are too fragile for any mailer, wrap them in a bubble wrap bag and ship in a cardboard box.

Choosing the Right Mailing Bag Size

Choose a bag about 20mm wider and longer than the item, and a little more for thick items, so the flap closes flat without straining the seal. As a guide:

• Jewellery, cosmetics and small accessories: paper mail pack 101x178mm or 127x229mm, or a maxi pack 150x220mm
• Phone cases, cards and small gifts: Jiffy or honeycomb Size 1 150x225mm, or an A5 courier bag 150x240mm

Mailing Bag FAQs

Do mailing bags need tape?

No. Courier bags, Jiffy bags, honeycomb mailers, paper mail packs, plastic maxi packs and bubble wrap bags with a flap all have a peel-and-seal strip. Bubble wrap bags without a flap are open-ended, so they are closed with tape or a heat sealer.

Which mailing bags are plastic-free?

Honeycomb padded mailers and Jiffy padded bags are made from paper inside and out. Paper mail pack mailers have a paper outer with a bubble wrap lining. Our courier bags are plastic, but made from 100% recycled material.

Are courier bags waterproof?

Courier bags are water-resistant and protect contents from rain and damp during delivery. For padded mailing in wet conditions, choose the plastic maxi pack mailer rather than a paper mailer.
