Plastic shopping bags are still the most economical way to send customers home with their purchases. QIS Packaging has supplied Australian businesses since 1985, and we keep plastic carry bags in stock at our Brisbane warehouse for boutiques, pharmacies, grocers, takeaway shops and market stalls.
There are two main styles. Die cut handle bags have a handle punched through the top of the bag, giving a neat, boutique look. Ours are heavy duty, 40 to 65 micron depending on size, so customers can reuse them. Singlet bags have two straps like a singlet top and are the classic checkout bag for supermarkets and takeaway.
Before you order, check the plastic bag rules where you trade, as they vary from state to state. If plastic is not an option, switch to paper carry bags or calico bags. Our non woven bags are another option outside WA and SA. For bulk orders across several bag types, see our wholesale shopping bags page.

Choosing the right plastic bag
- Match the bag to the product
- Small bags suit jewellery and cosmetics, medium bags suit everyday retail, and large or XXL bags suit clothing and bulky items.
- Heavy duty for reuse
- A thicker die cut bag looks premium and is more likely to be reused, which keeps your store name in view.
- Colour for your brand
- Pick one of 12 colours to match your shopfront, or have your logo printed.
- Check your state
- WA and SA ban plastic shopping bags with handles, and Queensland needs compliant bags.

Plastic shopping bag FAQs
Answers to the questions we are asked most about plastic carry bags.
Which plastic shopping bags can I still buy in my state?
+
Rules differ by state. Lightweight single use plastic shopping bags are banned right across Australia. Western Australia and South Australia also ban plastic shopping bags with handles, so paper or calico bags are the safer choice there. Both states only allow non woven bags with stitched seams and fabric of at least 90gsm, and our non woven bags are 75gsm, so they do not meet the rules in those two states. Queensland requires plastic shopping bags to meet recycled content and reuse standards: our QLD compliant singlet bags are 40 micron, 80% recycled plastic and tested to a minimum 125 uses, while our plain die cut bags are not sold as Queensland compliant. In NSW, Victoria and Tasmania, plastic bags thicker than 35 micron are allowed. Rules change, so always check with your state environment department before ordering.
How do I get wholesale prices on plastic bags?
+
Our bags are sold in bulk packs and cartons. Create a free account and sign in to get 5% off online stock orders. If you need more than our largest pack size, call us on 1800 555 343 or request a quote.
Are these heavy duty plastic carry bags?
+
Yes. Our die cut handle bags are 40 to 65 micron thick depending on size. For example, the medium 255 x 380mm bag is 40 micron and the large 415 x 530mm bag is 50 micron, strong enough for customers to reuse. Singlet checkout bags are lighter and more economical.
Do you offer printed plastic bags?
+
Yes. We can print your logo or artwork onto our die cut plastic carry bags. Browse printed plastic carry bags, choose a size and send us an enquiry, and we will come back to you with a quote.
What colours do your plastic carry bags come in?
+
Our die cut bags come in black, white, clear, aqua, gold, lime green, orange, pink, purple, red, silver and yellow. Not every colour is made in every size, so check the die cut bag range for the size you need.
