A heat sealer, also called a bag sealer or impulse sealer, uses a heating element under a hinged bar. When you press the bar down, a short timed "impulse" of heat melts the two layers of plastic together, then the seal cools under pressure for a strong, airtight finish.
Because the element only heats while the bar is pressed, impulse sealers stay cool between seals and need no warm-up time. Use them to seal LDPE poly bags, polypropylene bags, cellophane bags and layflat tubing.
Over time the element and teflon tape wear out. There is no need to replace the whole machine: our heat sealer repair kits have the parts to get you sealing again. Our guide on how to use a heat sealer and replace the element walks you through it.

Which heat setting should I use?

- Start on setting 1.

What is the difference between a heat sealer, bag sealer and impulse sealer?

They are the same machine. Heat sealers, also known as bag sealers or impulse sealers, use a heating element with a timed "impulse" to seal plastic bags or tubing.
Which bags and tubing can I seal?

Our polythene bags and polypropylene bags are both great options for heat sealing, as are our cellophane bags. You can also use our layflat polythene tubing to make bags to any length.
How do I know which heat setting to use?

This depends on the thickness of the bag or tubing you are sealing. As a general guide:
- 35µm: setting 1
- 50µm to 100µm: setting 2 to 3
- 100µm and over: setting 3 to 4
Test a couple of bags first, with the contents you plan to seal inside.
Should I buy a heat sealer with a cutter?

Choose a sealer with a cutter if you make bags from layflat tubing or want to trim the excess above the seal in one action. The 200mm, 300mm, 400mm and 500mm sealers come with or without a cutter. The 600mm, 800mm and 1000mm sizes come without a cutter.
