What Is Layflat Tubing?

Layflat tubing (also called poly tube, layflat poly tubing, or lay-flat tube) is continuous LDPE plastic tube supplied flat-packed on a long roll. It's the secret weapon for packaging anywhere stock-size bags don't fit — long products, irregular shapes, custom production runs, or items where you want zero air gap around the contents.

To use it, you simply cut a length off the roll, heat-seal one end to make a closed-bottom bag, fill it with your product, and heat-seal the top. You've just made a custom-size bag in the exact dimensions you needed, with no minimum order, no mould tooling, and no lead time. For continuous production lines, food packaging, hardware, plant nurseries, and anywhere you'd otherwise have to compromise on bag size — layflat tubing is the answer.

How to Choose Your Thickness (µm / Microns)

Thickness in microns (µm) determines the duty level — thicker = stronger, less likely to puncture or tear, but more material per metre:

• 30-35µm (light duty) — light/non-sharp products, dust covers, garment bags, plant stake covers, short-term protection. Cheapest per metre.
• 50µm (medium-light duty) — general light packaging, food items, dry goods, lightweight retail products. Good all-rounder for non-heavy contents.
• 75-100µm (medium-heavy duty) — most general-purpose packaging — hardware, plumbing parts, frozen food, retail products, longer-term storage. The most common stocked thickness.
• 150µm (heavy duty) — sharp edges, heavy contents, valuable goods, long-term storage, irregular-shape items that might stress the bag. Best puncture resistance.

If unsure, 100µm is the safe default for general use — strong enough to handle most products without being wasteful. Step up to 150µm for sharp edges or heavy items; step down to 50µm for light dust-cover use.

Why Is the 800mm Tube Black?

Black layflat tubing is used where light exclusion matters — most commonly for:

• Photographic materials and film — preventing light exposure to undeveloped or sensitive media
• UV-sensitive products — chemicals, pharmaceuticals, certain plastics and pigments that degrade in sunlight
