What Is Poly Strapping?
Poly strapping (also called plastic strapping or PP strapping) is the thin, strong polypropylene band used to bundle multiple cartons together, secure goods to pallets, and stabilise heavy loads during freight transit. It's pulled tight around the cartons, fastened with a buckle or seal, and tensioned to hold everything as a single rigid unit — so the load can't shift, tip, or come apart in the back of a truck.
The genuine business benefit beyond load security: bundling cartons together with strapping often qualifies the load as a single freight item, which can dramatically reduce per-item freight charges. For businesses shipping 2+ cartons to the same destination regularly, the savings on strapping pay for themselves quickly.
QIS stocks 4 strapping options — three regular-duty blue poly strapping widths (12mm, 15mm, 19mm) plus a heavy-duty black 19mm version. All come on 1000m rolls in convenient dispenser boxes. Stock items, same-day dispatch on orders before 12pm.
Why Choose QIS Strapping?
The 1000m roll length is the commercial-grade size — enough strapping for hundreds of bundle operations, with the price-per-metre dropping significantly compared to short rolls. Each roll comes in a dispenser box that holds the coil tidy and lets the strapping pull out cleanly from a packing station or pallet area without tangling or rolling away.
The 4-product range covers the full duty spectrum: 12mm for light bundles, 15mm for general cartons, 19mm blue for larger/heavier loads, and 19mm heavy-duty black for the toughest applications (heavy pallets, long-distance freight, high-value loads). Backed by QIS's 5% price-beat guarantee.
Important — strapping, buckles, and tools must be matched. See the compatibility table in the next section before ordering. Choosing the wrong combination is the most common mistake in first-time strapping orders.
How to order: Choose your strapping width from the table below, then make sure you order compatible buckles/seals from our Buckles and Seals range — and Strapping Tools if you're using the heavy-duty version. Fill out our enquiry form for full strapping kits or call us on 1800 555 343.

Strapping, Buckles & Tools Compatibility
Read this before ordering. Strapping must be matched to the correct fastening method, and the tools only work with specific strapping types. Mixing the wrong combination means the bundle won't hold.

| 19mm Heavy Duty (Black) | — | — | ✅ | ✅ | ✅ |
Two key rules from the QIS team:
- Heavy-duty strapping is thicker and cannot be hand-strapped — it's too rigid to pull tight by hand. You need a tensioner and crimper to apply it properly.
- Blue (regular-duty) strapping is too thin to thread through the heavy-duty tools — so blue strapping must be fastened by hand with the matching buckle (plastic for 12/15mm, metal for 19mm blue).
If you're new to strapping, start with 15mm blue + plastic buckles — the most versatile beginner combination, hand-strapped, no tools required, suits most light-to-medium freight needs.
For high-volume or heavy-duty operations, the 19mm heavy-duty black strapping + tensioner + crimper + metal seals is the full kit. Once set up it's the strongest and fastest strapping method, but requires the upfront investment in tools.
How to Strap a Bundle (Quick Method)
The basic blue-strapping process for hand application:
- Run strapping under the carton(s) and back up the other side
- Thread one end through the buckle (plastic for 12/15mm, metal for 19mm)
- Pull the other end through the buckle tight, by hand or with a manual tensioner
- The buckle locks the strap and prevents loosening
For heavy-duty black strapping with tools:
- Run strapping under the load
- Position a metal seal at the join point
- Use the tensioner to pull the strapping tight
- Use the crimper to crush the metal seal, locking the strapping in place
Why Bundle Cartons with Strapping?
Three practical reasons businesses bundle cartons:
- Lower freight costs — many courier and freight services charge per "item" rather than per kilo or cubic metre. Two cartons strapped together can ship as one item.
- Load stability — bundled cartons resist tipping, sliding, and crushing better than loose cartons. Important for stacked freight, palletised loads, and rough freight conditions.
- Goods integrity — strapping prevents cartons from coming open in transit, reduces the chance of theft or pilfering, and keeps related items together.
