Ask ten people what a poly bag is and you will get ten answers — the truth is simple: a poly bag is just a plastic bag, short for polyethylene. At QIS these are our clear, food-grade LDPE flat bags: no seal, no handle, just a smooth open-top bag you fill and close however you like. They come in dozens of sizes and four thicknesses.
Which thickness (gauge) do you need?
The number in microns (µm) tells you how thick, and therefore how tough, the bag is. As a rule of thumb, the sharper or heavier the contents, the higher the gauge you want:
- 35µm — light items: produce, garments, giftware
- 50µm — the everyday all-rounder for most goods
- 75µm — heavier or slightly sharp contents
- 100µm and over — heavy duty, for hardware, parts and awkward edges
