LLDPE (Linear Low-Density Polyethylene) is added to many plastic products for one big reason: performance. Here is what it brings to the table.

Key benefits of LLDPE

  • Puncture and impact resistance — ideal for bags holding sharp or heavy items
  • Superior flexibility and stretch — the reason stretch wrap clings so tightly
  • High tensile strength — strong without being thick or heavy

Manufacturers usually blend LLDPE in as a percentage of the polymer mix, depending on the job. Making bags with sharp edges? Adding LLDPE improves puncture resistance thanks to its stretchability.

Where LLDPE is used

Stretch wrap (pallet wrap) is made from a blend that is almost entirely LLDPE, so it can be stretched tight around a load. Ice bags are another common product with a high LLDPE content.
