HDPE is the plastic you reach for when you need a bit more backbone. Here is what it is and where it is used.
What does HDPE stand for?
HDPE is short for High-Density Polyethylene. Its molecular chains are packed tightly together, which makes it a strong plastic with high density and tensile strength — so it can be made thinner (using less plastic) while staying tough.
Where you will find HDPE
Its most familiar form is the lightweight grocery/checkout bag found in supermarkets worldwide, but HDPE is also used for milk bottles and all sorts of beverage containers. In short, HDPE is the go-to when strength matters.
