Mailing Products to Customers: The Essential Checklist

admin |

Selling online almost always means mailing products to customers — and that can be fraught with damaged goods, wrong orders and slow packing. Here's a six-point checklist to minimise returns and speed up your dispatch.

1. Have at least two people check the order

Wrong orders are one of the easiest — and costliest — mistakes to make. Build a system where more than one person checks the pick before it's packed and again before dispatch. A simple pick-pack-check workflow catches errors before they reach the customer.

2. Use protective packaging

For fragile goods, don't cut corners. Good options include:

For textiles, clothing or antiques, add acid-free tissue paper to prevent damage.

3. Use shipping labels and stickers

Let couriers know how to handle your parcel with warning labels — "fragile", "this way up", "top load only" and "glass with care" all help your goods (and your courier) stay safe.

4. Make your shipment tamper-evident

Courier bags use a permanent bonding seal that can only be opened by tearing the bag — a strong deterrent against tampering and theft. Tip: press the seal firmly for at least 15 seconds and leave it five minutes for the bond to fully set.

5. Pack efficiently

Time is money. See our warehouse packing shortcuts, and avoid over-packaging — books or soft goods don't need a big box and void fill, just a courier bag.

6. Deliver a great post-purchase experience

Little touches — a handwritten thank-you, a discount voucher, or branded packaging — go a long way toward repeat purchases and word-of-mouth.
