What does “poly” mean?

“Poly” is packaging slang, generally referring to the plastic polyethylene. But it is a broad term — there are seven common types of “poly” plastic:

• Polyethylene Terephthalate (PET or PETE)
• High-Density Polyethylene (HDPE)
• Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC)
• Low-Density Polyethylene (LDPE)
• Polypropylene (PP)
• Linear Low-Density Polyethylene (LLDPE)
• Polystyrene / Styrofoam (PS)
